Bandy Ton Delivers Premiership to CBC In Memorable Triumph

A century from Captain David Bandy helped CBC defeat Leeming Spartan at Karoonda Oval to claim their first A grade premiership since 2009-10 as the SMCA season concluded over the weekend.

CBC and Leeming played off in the showpiece event of the weekend, the first grade decider at Karoonda Oval North. CBC won the toss and elected to bat, Andrew Galbraith falling cheaply for just 6 and Gareth Foulkes departing for 14.

Leeming’s bowlers were all over the home side, running through their middle order to reduce CBC to 7-65, Kodie McKrill replicating his semi-final heroics by claiming four wickets.

Skipper Bandy remained stoic for his side, Kris McShane (26) helping him add 75 runs for the eighth wicket and helping swing the momentum of the match in the process.

McShane and Ethan Foulkes departed, but in fading light and in the dying overs of the innings the former state representative raised his bat for a memorable hundred, having batted his side out of trouble in the process.

CBC posted 9/177, Bandy undefeated on 102. McKrill claimed 4-18 for the visitors, while Gavin Argent took 2-27 to be the other multiple wicket taker.

Leeming’s chase never got going on the second afternoon, as CBC’s bowlers applied plenty of pressure with runs on the board. Andrew Galbraith opened the bowling with his off spinners, claiming 3 wickets as he bowled unchanged through the innings.

Alex Wragg did most of the damage for the home side, taking the prized scalps of Dan McClure, Todd Gill and Ben Harris as Leeming capitulated to 7-39.

Josh Foster made 23 to take the score past 50, but the game was over shortly after tea with Leeming all out for 75, CBC victorious by 102 runs. Perhaps fittingly that was Bandy’s score on the opening day, his knock the difference in the match.

Wragg claimed 3-12 and Galbraith 3-19 for the home team, who secured their first two day premiership since 2009-10 with the victory.

In second grade, Maddington upset ladder leaders Hilton-Palmyra on their home turf, winning by 45 runs in yet another low scoring tussle.

Batting first the Bulls made 111, Ben Roberts top scoring with 48.

The top four players all made it in to double figures, but the last seven wickets fell for a remarkable eight runs as the visitors squandered a dominant start at 3-103. Hilton captain Liam O’Donnell took 5-15 to be his side’s best bowler.

Maddington’s bowlers reclaimed the advantage on day two, taking regular wickets as the home side succumbed to the pressure of the chase. John Markham made 36 but lacked any support, only Harry Grigson (10) joining him in making double figures.

Hilton-Palmyra were bowled out for just 66 in 33.5 overs, Peter Anderson claiming 4-15 and Alec Lacey (junior) taking 2-30 in an upset premiership victory over the home side, who had lost just one match for the season.

Daniel Courcha took 5-58 for the Bulls, but sadly their batting failed to fire on day two, slumping to 3-6 early and never recovering, all out for 121 in 40.2 overs. Clinton Mitchell, Brendan Jones and Matija Separovic all took three scalps for the premiers.

SJ Blues won the 6th grade pennant in thrilling circumstances against Kenwick at Mills Park, the visitors bowlers successfully defending just 96.

Corey Stanley top scored with 30 for the Blues, Aaron Butler making 28. Steve Kemp claimed 5-43 for Kenwick, while Devyansh Singh continued his terrific finals series as he took 4-31 from 30 overs.

At 5-72 it appeared Kenwick were on course for victory, only for the last five wickets to tumble for 21 runs as the home side was bowled out for 93, Bryce Shersby the match winner with 7-38.

Jason Thompson made 36 and Tony Wright contributed 34, no other batsman making it in to double figures in a heartbreaking defeat.

Hilton-Palmyra couldn’t get going with the bat in the chase, all out for 103 in 32.1 overs. Jason Fowler took 5-19 for Phoenix to seal a comprehensive triumph.

Willetton sealed a dominant season with the One Day C’s premiership as they defeated CBC by 72 runs at Centenary Park North.

Batting first the Crows made 7/172, Brendan May hitting a superb even 100 to lead the way with the bat. Chris McCarthy took 3-37 for CBC.

Early wickets made the task even tougher for the visitors, never able to break the shackles against a strong Willetton batting line up.

Brendan May completed a brilliant all round game by taking 3-25, Jaydn Giudici also with 3 wickets as CBC was bowled out in the 38th over for an even 100.

Shayne Hersey took 3-12 for the Spartans to be the best of the bowlers.

The One Day E’s pennant went the way of Armadale, the Demons posting 6/202 at Gwynne Park against Phoenix with Rhett Jones making 83.

The visitors were in a position of strength at 2-110, but the pressure of the occasion told as the last 8 wickets tumbled for 54 runs to give Armadale a 38 run win.

Jones was the unanimous choice for man of the match as he claimed 3-13 to go with his earlier batting heroics.

Leeming were too good for Willetton in the One Day F’s Grand Final at Trevor Gribble Park, the Crows only able to make 9/88 batting first.

Mick Bennett took 5-29 to run through the Crows middle to lower order, Blake Carter and Paul Hitch both with two wickets.

Leeming raced to victory in just 13.3 overs with seven wickets still in hand, Geoff Burgess belting 36 and Darren Woodward unbeaten on 20. Abbi Akhil took all 3 wickets to fall for Willetton.
