CBC, Leeming to Renew Grand Final Rivalry as Bowlers Dominate Semi-Final Weekend

CBC and Leeming will face off in the SMCA First Grade Grand Final for the first time since 2010-11 after the clubs won their respective semi-finals over the weekend.
It was a weekend dominated by the bowlers, with only two centuries scored (both in the same grade) and 17 team scores below 100 as the pressure of the occasion told across the 28 games in the SMCA competition.
CBC posted a moderate total of 9/152 against Armadale at Karoonda Oval, run machine Andrew Galbraith hitting 71 but receiving little help from his team mates.
Matthew Coates made an unbeaten 21 in a crucial 13 run last wicket stand with Andrew Wragg that would prove the winning margin in the match.
Armadale were well on top in the chase at 1-87 before a brilliant piece of fielding from Chris Pietroniro sent Demons talisman Mark Rice on his way for 51, Rice run out shortly after reaching his half century.
At 3-112 the chase seemed secure, but the pressure told and the final 7 wickets fell for 27 runs, the last two wickets both run outs as the visitors were all out for 139 in 72 overs.
Pietroniro took 3-26 to go with his fielding heroics, while Ethan Foulkes took 2-7 including the crucial scalp of Jordan Armstrong (43).
Leeming proved far too good for Cockburn at John Connell Reserve to qualify for their second consecutive Grand Final, recovering from the perils of 6-83 to post 210.
Ben Harris starred with the bat, hitting 97 as the last two wickets added 93 for the home side. Todd Gill earlier contributed 30, while Josh Pescud claimed 4-77 and Chris Scenini 3-50 for the Cavaliers.
Cockburn’s chase never got going, reduced to 7-44 before some stoic tail end batting took the score in to three figures. The visitors were eventually all out for 101, Kodie McKrill starring with the ball as he claimed 5-22, two wickets each for Joshua Foster and Ryan Jenkins.
