In a match player between Kardinya and Kwinana a verbal stoush occurred between the Kardinya bowler - Mr Mitchell Brindley and the Kwinana Batsman. As the banter became more intense, Mr Walters who was umpiring at the time called Mr Brindley a 'fucking Paedophile'.

Tribunal notes:

1. Mr Walters pleased GUILTY to the offence. 2. Mr Walters acknowledged that he should not have made the comment, especially when he was officiating as an umpire. 3. Mr Brindley stated that he was frustrated with the batsman at the time of the incident and was stressed and could not remember the exact details of the incident except the comment about being a "paedophile'. 4. The Kardinya team captain Mr Shane McAuilffe said he did not hear the comment as he was fielding in the outfield and that the match was played in good spirit. 5. Mr Abbot said that intensity of the match increased towards the end of the match due to the closeness of the contest and that the match had been played in good spirit. He was not aware that a report had been submitted until official notification of a player report was received. 6. The panel then considered the matter.

Penalty:

Mr Walters was found GUILTY of the offence. Mr Walters was suspended from playing for two (2) playing dates effective from 14 Dec 2019. Mr Walters was also given a four (4) week suspended sentence for the remainder of this season and season 2020/21.
