PENALTY

Report:

On Saturday 29 October 2022 during the 30th over of the SJ Blues innings, an umpires decision of not out was disputed by the fielding team (Thornlie). The Umpire (non-official) was confronted by a number of players from the fielding team who strongly disputed the decision of not out. After approx five or so minutes the subject player who was the Thornlie Team captain led his team off the field. Play did not resume and as such the match is forfeited by Thornlie.

Tribunal notes:

Evidence in the form of player written statements and verbal statements was heard and considered by the Tribunal members. The action of the Thornlie team in leaving the field of play after a decision of not out was given by the umpire in the 30th over of the SJ Blues innings, led to a number of alleged verbal exchanges including alleged inappropriate language between both teams. These alleged comments could not be verified and the Tribunal considered that no further action could be taken except that both clubs are to be notified about their player behaviour.

Penalty:

Forfeit applied to Thornlie One day B team Player P Crishan Fernando suspended for two playing days for dissenting an umpires decision and leading his players from the field with 4 overs still to be bowled. This was considered as a level 1 offence in accordance with SMCA bylaw 1- Code of Conduct.
